A dance theatre staging of Alex Roth's settings of poetry by Constantin Cavafy, performed in Greek and English.
A collaboration between Théâtre Volière, guitarist and composer Alex Roth, Greek singers Savina Yannatou and Elena Hadjiafxendi, classical guitarist Nikos Baroutsakis and young choreographer Jan Wood, originally commissioned by The Marchland Season.
One day I took a piece of chalk, and I wrote on that grimy window up there, 'I mustn't do it again, I mustn't come here again!'
A maison de passe in a disreputable quarter of fin de siecle Alexandria, where men meet for illicit sexual encounters. We follow one of Cavafy's archetypal youths, part defiant god, part troubled human being. He ages before our eyes, eventually coming to terms with, and feeling able to celebrate, his sexuality, just as his mortality catches up with him.
